Aspiring and current teachers! We want to send you across the country to help supercharge your students’ sense of success and belonging—for free!
This summer, Roadtrip Nation is sending three aspiring and current educators across the United States to gather insights from other educators on how they are measuring progress in their work to make students feel seen, heard and valued.
Made possible by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, these three roadtrippers will travel across the country to talk to academic and administrative professionals revamping how we measure student success to understand where students are thriving.
For decades, standardized tests and report cards dominated how teachers measured their students’ success. Over time, it became apparent we need more tools. Forward-thinking teachers like you started to ask: if student wellbeing is fundamental to academic learning, how do we know how our students are doing?
We want to help you meet mentors—from all across the country—who’ll help you become a better mentor to your own students.
We want you to see how different individuals and institutions are changing the way we measure and increase student success. You’ll learn innovative practices that educators are using to understand the impact of their efforts to support student wellbeing in support of academic achievement and success.
If you’re ready to improve your students’ lives, and travel across the United States, we want to send you out on an experience you’ll never forget!
Who’s Roadtrip Nation?
Hi! We’re Roadtrip Nation, and for over 20 years, we’ve been sending people on road trips in our green RV to explore possibilities for their futures. We believe there’s power in getting out there, trying something new, and talking to people whose stories could change your life—and that’s why we want to send you on this journey.
Who we’re looking for:
We’re looking for aspiring and current educators eager to learn how to engage their students as holistic individuals.
If you’ve ever felt like your calling as a teacher means a lot more than just helping kids learn how to do a multiplication table or analyze a classic novel, this is the opportunity for you.
You’ll get to talk with some of the top minds in the world of education to help shape your own approaches to centering student wellbeing in support of academic achievement and success. There are a lot of ways to measure and improve student success and we want to show you as many as we can firsthand!
What’s this experience all about?
First of all, this is SO much more than a free road trip. (Although…it is free!) This will be a life-changing investment into your personal and career development.
You’ll be asked to schedule and conduct interviews with professionals you’ve never met, all while living on the road with other roadtrippers and members of the Roadtrip Nation crew. And you’ll be filmed along the way—so you’ll need to open up to the experience, and get totally candid at times.
But you’ll also get to see the country in a whole new way, and meet incredible people—and potential mentors—who can help guide you along your career path.
So if you’re ready for a transformative opportunity, we urge you to apply for this trip!
Additional Info:
Applicants must be available to commit to 3 to 4 weeks of travel in July and August
All travel expenses—plus a daily stipend for personal expenses—are paid for by Roadtrip Nation.
The trip will be filmed, and you’ll be asked to share your thoughts and feelings on-camera throughout the journey. The resulting documentary may be shown on public television, and/or used in Roadtrip Nation’s educational tools.
If chosen, you’ll help plan the trip around your interests and career aspirations—so you’ll need to work with Roadtrip Nation to research and book interviews with the career role models you’d like to speak with!
If selected, you’ll have access to a mental health professional throughout the experience to talk about how you’re feeling and what you’re thinking. You’ll also receive career coaching from InsideTrack after the road trip concludes.
Have questions? Check out our FAQ page.
How the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting our road trips and applications: Your health and safety and the safety of our crew is our main priority, and we won’t hit the road until it’s safe to do so. We’re continuing with our process of selecting participants for this trip, though it’s possible that deadlines and travel dates may shift as the situation with COVID-19 evolves. If dates do change, we’ll update them here, and you by email if you’ve already applied. If you have any questions, you can always email us at roadtrips@roadtripnation.org.
