Travel the country to meet the people building a healthier world—and get a better vision of your own future.
This summer, Roadtrip Nation is sending three young adults on a road trip to talk to people who are building a healthier, more equitable future for us all.
Fueled by support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, these three roadtrippers will travel across the country to explore cutting-edge ideas, and meet the scientists, artists, researchers, and entrepreneurs who are building a healthier future, today.
What do we mean by “a healthier future”? Health and wellbeing is shaped by our whole environment: It’s our ability to find housing, education, and job opportunities that help us thrive. It’s our mental wellness, and our ties to our communities. It’s the systems that provide us with food, clinical care, and even access to the internet!
Right now, we don’t all have what we need to be our healthiest—because so many determinants of health are dictated by how much money we earn or the color of our skin. That’s why we’re looking for roadtrippers who dream of a more just and equitable future where everyone has the opportunity to live their healthiest life.
Who’s Roadtrip Nation?
Hi! We’re Roadtrip Nation, and for over 20 years, we’ve been sending people on road trips in our green RV to explore possibilities for their futures. We believe there’s power in getting out there, trying something new, and talking to people whose stories could change your life—and that’s why we want to send you on this journey.
What’s this experience all about?
First of all, this is SO much more than a free road trip. (Although…it is free!) This will be a life-changing investment into your personal and career development.
You’ll be asked to schedule and conduct interviews with professionals you’ve never met, all while living on the road with other roadtrippers and members of the Roadtrip Nation crew. And you’ll be filmed along the way—so you’ll need to open up to the experience, and get totally candid at times.
But you’ll also get to see the country in a whole new way, and meet incredible people—and potential mentors—who can help guide you along your career path.
So if you’re ready for a transformative opportunity, we urge you to apply for this trip!
Who we’re looking for:
We’re looking for young adults who are interested in the intersection of health and social justice.
It doesn’t matter what you’re interested in, or studying, or which area you want to work in someday—be it sustainability, food systems, city planning, politics, or beyond. In fact, you might not have a clue what you want to do with your life! That’s OK—we’re going to talk to a lot of people on this trip, all of whom are doing very different, exciting things.
All that matters is that you dream of building a healthier future for all—and you’re open to taking this adventure in order to gain more confidence and clarity for the road ahead.
Requirements:
- Applicants must be available to commit to 3 to 4 weeks of travel in late June/early July.
- All travel expenses—plus a daily stipend for personal expenses—are paid for by Roadtrip Nation.
- The trip will be filmed, and you’ll be asked to share your thoughts and feelings on-camera throughout the journey. The resulting documentary may be shown on public television, and/or used in Roadtrip Nation’s educational tools.
If chosen, you’ll help plan the trip around your interests and career aspirations—so you’ll need to work with Roadtrip Nation to research and book interviews with the career role models you’d like to speak with!

How the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting our road trips and applications: Your health and safety and the safety of our crew is our main priority, and we won’t hit the road until it’s safe to do so. We’re continuing with our process of selecting participants for this trip, though it’s possible that deadlines and travel dates may shift as the situation with COVID-19 evolves. If dates do change, we’ll update them here, and alert you by email if you’ve already applied. If you have any questions, you can always email us at roadtrips@roadtripnation.org.
