We’re creating a documentary focused on Black men in higher ed—and we want you to be a part of it.

Apply by July 21, 2024 at 11:59 PM (PST)

Take part in a documentary storytelling initiative that depicts the richness and diversity of Black male experiences in higher education—and share your story too.

You’ll travel to meet and interview inspiring Black male thought leaders and role models to learn how they navigated their paths to, and through college and into their successful careers.

This project is all about amplifying stories that spark Black men’s ideas and dreams for their future by giving them more wide-ranging models of what’s possible—and now you can be a part of that inspiring conversation, too.

We’re looking for you if:

- You’re a Black man (age 18+) currently pursuing, or planning to pursue, your education beyond high school (in community college, a four-year college or university, or a certification program)

- You’re interested in meeting inspiring Black male role models and mentors whose postsecondary experiences were pivotal to their success in their lives and careers

- You want to drive the conversation forward about how higher ed can better support Black men’s success

What is this for?

You’ll be applying to be part of Roadtrip Nation’s public television series about how people find their path in life.  And we want to highlight you and share your story too.

This season, we’re shining a light on Black men who have found success in their lives and careers—and how their postsecondary experiences helped them get there.

But this is also so much more than a TV show—this is an opportunity for you to get out there, get exposure to new paths and possibilities, and talk to people whose stories can change your life.

And you don’t need to be a journalist or journalism student to be a part of this project! If you’d like to learn from experts and meet mentors, then this experience is for you.

If selected, you’ll get a generous paid stipend, and we’ll work with you to make this fit into your life.

We’ll be filming during the school year, so we’ll work around your schedule to make sure you can keep up with your obligations.

We’ll keep any travel and time away from home or school short, and you’ll receive a generous paid stipend to cover personal expenses and needs as a result of participating. We’ll also work together to schedule around you and provide support for what you need to make this work for your life.

Your story is important, and we want to make sure you have the support you need to meet financial obligations and life responsibilities while participating.

Additional Information:

- We’ll be filming in November 2024, and we’ll work with you to schedule around your class schedule, life, and commitments during that time

- All travel expenses—plus a daily stipend for personal expenses—are paid for by Roadtrip Nation. We’ll work with you to make sure the stipend covers what you need to be able to participate

- The experience will be filmed, and you’ll be asked to share your thoughts and feelings on-camera throughout the journey. The resulting documentary may be shown on public television, and/or used in Roadtrip Nation’s educational tools

- If selected, you’ll help plan the experience around your interests and career aspirations—so you’ll need to work with Roadtrip Nation to research and book interviews with the career role models you’d like to speak with

- After filming is over, we’ll provide you with six months of free personalized career coaching and support from InsideTrack to help you pursue your life, education, and career goals
